Safety
At Compass, we believe every job is so important that it must be done safely. That’s why we invest in best-in-class safety training programs and offer incentives that motivate our employees to always put safety first. Compass provides company-wide training programs that far exceed regulatory standards and has earned a reputation as one of the safest in the industry.
SAFE — Stay Accident Free Everyday
Compass is an active participant in Chesapeake’s SAFE program, which promotes teamwork and communication at all levels of the organization and across all companies. We believe this valuable program adds a substantial framework to our safety initiative.
There are three key components to achieving zero incidents on our jobsites:
- Training
- Resources
- Enforcement
Our goal is for all employees to return home safely, so our field safety and training coaches ensure all our facilities and jobsites are equipped with the resources they need to operate safely and responsibly.
New employees go through safety orientation with their supervisors the first day on the job. All managers and supervisors receive a 30-hour Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) safety course, and all other employees attend a 10-hour OSHA safety course. Every employee has the right and responsibility to shut down a job if he or she does not feel it is safe.
In addition to site safety, operating a vehicle safely is important. All employees who drive company vehicles are required to attend Smith System driver training. The techniques taught in this program are proven to reduce the likelihood of a motor vehicle accident. If you have a complaint regarding one of our drivers, please email compass.safe@chk.com and provide the license plate, date and time of the incident, location of the incident and specific details.
